The current work Khirkee 2027 was conceived as a playable game during the Gaming residency at Khoj in 2014. This game is loosely modeled on the framework of a first-person shooter (FPS) game. But unlike the FPS games where the objective is the act of killing, in Khirkee 2027 you are invited to play as a girl, a migrant. There are no guns; instead, there are questions of identity, racial politics, and gender.
The game starts in the year 2027, with the player wandering through Khirkee, a district of Delhi, seeing it through the eyes of the main protagonist.
The landscape becomes part of the narrative, like a cross between a graphic novel and a game, changing as the player wanders. As the game progresses, players might discover new things about themselves. As you explore this world, you also explore ideas around the status of first and second generation migrants in an increasingly fractured futuristic society.
